The Volvo V90 is the best estate car of 2016, according to the Daily Express. In its ‘Motoring Oscars’ issue, the national newspaper pitted the V90 against the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate, with the Volvo’s victory sealed by its “stylish lines both inside and out, with that touch-screen dominated interior similar to the XC90 and excellent build quality.”
This is the V90’s latest victory against its premium opposition, and comes after it was named ‘Best Estate’ in TopGear Magazine’s 2016 awards and was given the title of overall Scottish Car of the Year.
"Best estate car: Volvo V90 Runner-up: Mercedes E-Class
Considering the ever-increasing popularity of 4x4s and crossovers is meant effectively to have killed off the family estate car, you’d expect this award to be all but extinct.
However, in 2016 we saw the arrival of not one but two new estate cars that anyone with a family would, frankly, be delighted to drive – the Volvo V90 and Mercedes E-Class.
There’s not much more than a cigarette paper’s width between them and we love the Merc’s wide engine range, including 109g/km diesels and scorching-hot AMGs, plus its huge 1,820-litre boot.
But the £34,555 Swede gets our nod for its stylish lines both inside and out, with that touch-screen dominated interior similar to the XC90 and excellent build quality."
